Firbold Brewery Cellar & Catacombs Entrance
The cellar is filled with rows of neatly stacked kegs of Firbold Brew.
In one corner of the cellar is a dome-shaped vent hood made of hammered copper which connects to a rounded copper duct that extends through the floor above and vents outside the brewery. The hood covers a section of floor missing due to a past explosion of built-up gas from the catacombs below. The party confirmed this was the same explosion that caused the loss of Marizia's left arm and leg.
Whisper sent their familiar Evan The Sphynx through the hole in the floor to investigate the space directly below the brewery cellar.
- The space is a large half-cylinder, square flat side downward, its arc having a radius of about 100 feet. The floor is damp dirt. On two sides, ancient, weathered stone walls curve overhead. At the two ends of the half-cylinder are flat, featureless walls of the same stone.
- There are no doors or other openings visible, save for the hole at the top of the arcing roof which leads to the Firbold Brewery cellar.
Shrine to Maglubiyet
The party encountered an interesting shrine at the edge of the fields of Rooz before entering the woods to the south:
- A carved wooden statuette of a fat, bejewelled goblin-like figure in a crossed-legged pose.
- Recalled a mantra of Maglubiyet: "Fall beneath the ever-bleeding axe, or bow before the throne of flaming iron."
- Recalled some cultural context of the shrine: These shrines tend to represent unity and peace among goblinkind. Maglubiyet symbolises the constant fight for survival and glory rather than territorial expansion. Plumerian - and by extension Imperial - cultures create and pay respect to shrines like this as appeasement to goblins of the wild so that they may be left alone, and to act as a marker of boundaries where "civilization" ends and "goblin country" begins. What exactly constitutes "goblin country" varies by locale, but is typically synonymous with "the wilds" or "the woods" in other regions. Whether humanoids or goblins actually respect these boundaries varies greatly by locality.
Peryton Crater Approach
From outside the crater, it appears to be about a mile in diameter. The crater rim rises approximately 100 feet above the surrounding landscape. The approach appears gradual and heavily wooded.
The party observed a number of hunting perytons coming and going from the ridge of the crater, indicating they may be nesting along it.
The party made camp in the afternoon about a mile from the beginning of the ascent to the northern side of the crater's rim, planning to leave after nightfall to avoid hunting perytons.
